Consideration and action on Resolution No. 09-148; a resolution of the Mayor and Council of the City of Surprise, Arizona, designating volunteer workers within the city's volunteer management program as employees and thereby affording them coverage under worker's compensation.
| Motion: |
| I move to approve Resolution No. 09-148. |
| Background: |
Arizona Revised Statutes §23-901.06 permits municipalities to cover designated volunteers under the employer’s workers’ compensation insurance policy by the passage of a resolution defining the nature and type of volunteer work and volunteers positions to be covered. The attached resolution updates the City’s designated list of volunteer positions for this coverage.
| Financial Impact Statement: |
There is no additional cost to the City to implement this resolution, since the cost of volunteer coverage is included in the City’s budgeted workers’ compensation premium.
